The Tour of Bijagual begins in the mountains directly behind Jaco, and continues roughly half the distance to the peak of the mountain. We leave the ATV’s and take a short walk to a beautiful 35ft. waterfall – a perfect spot to get a little wet and take some photos. We then continue up a fairly technical trail above the canopy and to the top of the mountain range. Just beyond the crest of the mountain lies a beautiful mirador offering views of the ocean playing against sands as far south as Esterillos, and as far west as the island of Cabo Blanco at southern most tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. We continue along the top of the mountain and through the rainforest towards the tranquil Pueblo of Bijagual for a drink. Normally, we return from Bijagual back down the same trail. However, for the thrill-seekers we offer the opportunity to ride what we call La Vuelta de Cementario, or Cemetery Loop. There’s a cemetery at the turn off, but it is a nice reminder to take care on the way in. Otherwise, it’s back to Ricaventura Headquarters after drinks in Bijagual.
