Our Overnighter tour covers the ground of all our other tours combined, plus a few extra kilometers. This tour can be tailored to be comfortable enough for a beginner, or technical enough for a pro. The tour starts off at Ricaventura Headquarters between noon and 1pm. The tour lasts roughly four hours the first afternoon, and between three and fours hours the following morning. Our overnight stay at Paradisvert offers three cozy cabinas with spectacular views of the rainforest and ocean which means we can only accommodate either three couples, three individuals, or mix thereof. After showering off the dirt from the day’s ride, everyone rejoins at Paradisvert’s main house for sunset, a little music, cocktails and a candlelit homemade dinner. There’s no electricity in this part of the mountains which makes for a beautiful star-lit sky, and a quiet and tranquil night. We start off the following morning after a nice breakfast with our friends at Paradisvert, but let’s start from the beginning of the tour…

The Overnighter begins with our longest single-day tour and covers nearly 100 kilometers of waterfalls, rivers, rainforest, countryside, small villages, hidden bars and restaurants. Starting up the trail towards Agujita and Bijagual, the tour makes a full circuit in the mountains to the southern pueblo of Mata De Platano.

Like The Tour of Bijagual, the tour begins in the mountains directly behind Jaco, and continues roughly half the distance to the peak of the mountain. We leave the ATV’s and take a short walk to a beautiful 35ft. waterfall – a perfect spot to get a little wet and take some pictures. We then continue up a fairly technical trail above the canopy and to the top of the mountain range. Just beyond the crest of the mountain lies a beautiful mirador offering views of the ocean playing against sands as far south as Esterillos, and as far west as the island of Cabo Blanco at southern most tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. We continue along the top of the mountain and through the rainforest towards the tranquil Pueblo of Bijagual for a drink. After our refreshments, we have the option of heading through La Vuelta de Cementario (for the advanced riders), or pressing on to the next pueblo of Las Delicias. Though it’s impossible to describe every little pueblo we pass on the tour, suffice it to say that each has its own unique charm, and the locals always greet us with a wave and a smile.
After six more pueblos and making the majority of the circuit, we arrive at the Tulin River – an opportunity to rinse off a little bit before making the next 15 kilometers to our cabinas at Paradisvert.

The next morning we have a nice breakfast and take a short hike from the cabinas to another spectacular waterfall just west of Paradisvert. After our hike, we depart on the ATV’s for La Gloria Puriscal, an old church hidden back in the mountains past Mata De Platano. A brief photo opportunity at La Gloria Puriscal, and were off for a refreshment before making our final tour of the mountains and the beach in Hermosa.

Our first stop in Hermosa is a small waterfall just beyond two streams we negotiate with the ATV’s. From this point we make our Tour De La Gloria in reverse. We start our trip up in to the rainforest and above the canopy. After riding roughly 20 kilometers we arrive at a sweeping view of Playa Jaco and the Nicoya Peninsula. The following descent back to Hermosa Beach is our last descent back to sea-level. We conclude the tour with a leisurely drive along side the volcanic sands and crashing waves of Hermosa Beach, and continue back to Ricaventura Headquarters in Jaco.
